ARCH MOSCOW 2025
11 February 2026
This time, ABD architects took part in the Masters section of the ARCH MOSCOW exhibition and forum. Responding to the main theme, “Essence”, we presented an art object that queried the heart of architecture.
Essence
“The essence of architecture is structure.” This is how partner and principal architect Ilya Levyant answers the question. This philosophy inspired an installation: a 3D lattice construction and a panel that explained the concept.
In the manifesto text, Ilya puts it like this:
“Architecture without its trappings is a structure of ideas, meanings, and solutions. Each part is a necessary element of the future building. Completeness isn’t limited to the shell: it emerges in the constructive unity of elements, in the logic of connections, in how space comes alive.
True beauty lies in a well-planned structure. It ensures stability, determines how space works, creates conditions for comfort and safety. And looking more broadly, at urban scale structure shapes the city itself.”
The structure is made from corten steel—a material that ages naturally over time. Originally, the intention was to leave the object uncoated, but at the curators’ request it was painted white. This won’t prevent the natural patination process—if anything, it adds another layer of meaning: structure can change while remaining unchanged in essence.
After ARCH MOSCOW
We showed this art object at our own Three Forms event, held at ARTPLAY, alongside works by other team members.
Structure then became part of the anniversary Archstoyanie festival and entered the permanent collection at Nikola-Lenivets. The work was presented as part of Vasily Bychkov’s curated project Walk of Fame, which featured 36 objects by architects and artists, each statement reflecting their authors’ philosophy.
